CHS Birmingham 2024 Recap: Inspiration for Event Planners

Attending industry events is one of the best ways to keep up with the ever-evolving world of corporate venues and hospitality. Last month’s CHS Birmingham at the International Convention Centre (ICC) was no exception. Bringing together over 200 venues, destinations, and suppliers, this event offered unparalleled opportunities for event planners to network, learn, and discover the newest trends and venues.

Key Highlights from CHS Birmingham 2024

A Welcoming Start at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham

Ahead of show day, I had the pleasure of staying at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham, one of the hosted buyer hotels. Its direct connection to the ICC made for a seamless start, and their exceptional customer service and standout breakfast deserve recognition. For event planners looking for convenience and comfort, this hotel is a prime choice.

Seminar Sessions Packed with Insights

I was thrilled to lead three tailored seminar sessions in the PA Lounge, sponsored by ASM Global, aimed at executive assistants (EAs), personal assistants (PAs), and office managers who coordinate corporate events. Here’s a quick overview of the valuable takeaways shared:

    1. New Venue Discoveries This session kicked off at 10 a.m., focusing on the latest venue openings and refurbishments. Staying updated on fresh options can be challenging, but with major developments like the upcoming World of Hyatt properties and IHG’s expanding luxury portfolio, there are exciting opportunities to explore. In the UK, notable investments include The Belfry’s £80 million refurbishment and the upcoming Becketwell Live in Derby, which promises to be a premier entertainment spot opening in 2025. I emphasized how crucial it is to engage in networking and attend industry exhibitions to keep one’s venue knowledge current.
    2. Spotlight on London’s Venue Landscape My second session highlighted new and renovated London venues set to impress event planners. From The Peninsula and Raffles London to the soon-to-open Cambridge House Auberge Resorts in Piccadilly, London’s venue scene is brimming with innovation. Olympia London’s anticipated £1.3 billion transformation will also be a game changer. I recommended resources such as Unique Venues of London and the Westminster Venue Collection for inspiration and up-to-date insights.
    3. Back to Basics: Event Planning Essentials In the final session, I covered practical tips and challenges faced when planning corporate events. From understanding room layouts and deciphering event jargon to effectively navigating day delegate rates and asking the right questions during the planning process, I aimed to equip attendees with tools to streamline their roles.  Feedback was fantastic with one delegate commenting to me ‘I wish this had been around 10 years ago!’

Exploring the Show and Building Connections

After my sessions, I had the chance to reconnect with key industry contacts and explore the exhibitors. I met with The Belfry’s team to discuss their 2025 updates and visited the Sutton Hotel Collection, showcasing the beautifully refurbished Francis Hotel in Bath. I also caught up with Visit Malta for the latest on corporate getaways—perfect for teams seeking a sunny conference destination.

A Special Work Experience Moment

This year, my 14-year-old daughter joined me for her first industry experience, and it was heartwarming to see how warmly the CHS team and attendees welcomed her. It was a reminder of the industry’s vibrant and inclusive spirit.

Looking Ahead

With next year’s CHS Birmingham already set for October 28th, 2025, I highly recommend marking your calendars. Register your interest —I hope to see you there!
